Kuwait Municipality Replaces Expat Legal Advisers

30 November 2022 Expats

Abdulaziz Al Mojel, Kuwaiti Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, has announced that all expatriate legal advisers at Kuwait Municipality will be replaced in less than a year under a new employment policy, dubbed Kuwaitization.

The municipality's legal department currently has 127 Kuwaiti advisers, compared with three expatriates, the official said.

A Kuwaitization process is underway for all advisors in the municipality. Al Mojel continues, "All contracts will be completed in less than a year, and the Kuwaitisation rate will be 100 percent."

Kuwait has stepped up efforts to create jobs for its citizens and replace foreign workers in recent years.

There have been increasing calls in Kuwait for curbing foreign workers' employment and accusations that migrant workers are straining the country's infrastructure facilities due to COVID-19.
