Mps Have Submitted A Request To Allocate Two Hours To Discuss Security Protocols
MPs have submitted a request to allocate two hours of the upcoming parliamentary session for the discussion of defense and security protocols, which were not tackled in the previous session when the government briefed the National Assembly on precautionary measures taken in view of the brewing tension in the region.
MP Mohamed Al-Dallaal said this request is for the government to elaborate on security efforts of the military, National Guard and Interior Ministry. MP Safa Al-Hashem, one of those who signed the request, pointed out that in case of civil unrest due to the latest developments in the region; the Assembly wants to know the extent of security measures taken by concerned authorities to ensure the safety of public utilities. Furthermore, the parliamentary Interior and Defense Committee postponed voting on the proposal to grant citizenship to non-Kuwaiti women married to Kuwaitis until the government submits its vision on the bill, which is being reviewed by the Cabinet and is expected to be referred to the Assembly after the Eid holidays.
Committee Chairman MP Askar Al-Enizi affirmed the bill is thorough and extensive as it covers the widows who did not apply for citizenship when their Kuwaiti husbands were alive. He said it is unacceptable for non-Kuwaiti mothers of Kuwaiti children – whether Bedouns, GCC nationals or others — to remain non-Kuwaitis for the rest of their lives just because their deceased husbands refused to apply for their citizenship.
Therefore, once any of the children of these women reach the age of maturity, they are entitled to the Kuwaiti nationality. If the Kuwaiti husband is alive, a non-Kuwaiti wife will be granted the same rights as a Kuwaiti citizen three years after marriage and will be eligible for naturalization after 18 years, he added. He stressed the committee is keen on approving a comprehensive bill that applies to all non-Kuwaiti women married to Kuwaitis including divorcees and those with infertility and disability issues.
On the other hand, MP Adel Al- Damkhi has submitted a proposal to increase the student allowance by KD 100 to help them cope with the rising cots of living; while MP Talaal Al-Jallaal has proposed increasing the number of fire stations in Ahmadi and Mubarak Al- Kabeer governorates, considering the population growth in both governorates.
In addition, MP Osama Al- Shaheen has proposed re-starting the excavation of maritime courses and canals linking the mainland to Failaka Island as recent storms and unlawful dumping of waste leveled the seabed; thereby, hindering pathways of ships and causing delays and complications for island goers.
