Kuwait has taken an important step towards promoting gender equality in the judiciary by appointing the first 90 Kuwaiti female judges in the Arab world and the Middle East. These accomplished judges began their journey as trainee attorneys within the Public Prosecution, operating under the guidance of the Attorney General.

The High Judicial Council has officially sanctioned the appointment of 19 trainee attorneys, along with nearly 100 new trainee attorneys, according to Sabq. This decision has been made to expedite the selection of the most qualified candidates and to address the judiciary’s staffing needs.

The source further revealed that, since the inclusion of female candidates in the trainee attorney role, 15 of these individuals have been elevated to the esteemed position of “judge.” As a result of their involvement in some of the most complex and pivotal cases within the Public Prosecution, their competence and valuable experience have been reflected in this promotion.

According to the High Judicial Council, all trainee attorneys are poised to progress into the roles of judges and consultants in the future.

Last but not least, the source underscored the ongoing commitment to accepting female candidates for this crucial role, reinforcing gender equality ideals. Women serving on the High Judicial Council are recognized for their intelligence, experience, and ability to handle the most challenging cases.
