Minister of Finance and the acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs Maryam Al-Aqeel, in her first response to the case of the death of Filipina woman on Dec 29, 2019, affirmed the keenness of Kuwait to protect the rights of expatriate workers especially domestic workers, reports Al- Seyassah daily.

In a press statement, she stressed Kuwait does not allow any form of violation of the rights of any migrant worker in the country.

Al-Aqeel lamented the death of the Filipina worker after a Kuwaiti citizen allegedly assaulted her, insisting that Kuwait is a country of institutions where the law applies to all, whether citizens or not.

The minister affirmed her confidence in the Kuwaiti judiciary, which is considered as the sanctuary of everyone on the land of Kuwait in terms of restoration of deprived rights, adding that Kuwait embraces hundreds of thousands of migrant workers due to the freedom and liberty, work safety and rights protection they enjoy here. She warned against the attempts being made by some people to take advantage of such incidents to stoke the situation or attempt to drive a wedge between Kuwait and the country that allows its labor force to come to Kuwait for work.
