Kuwait Airways Launches The First Commercial Flights To London Today
Today, the first direct commercial flights from Kuwait to the United Kingdom (London) depart since they were suspended last January, due to the emergence of a new strain of the Corona virus.
Flights between the two countries will resume after the Cabinet’s decision last week to instruct the General Administration of Civil Aviation to allow direct flights with the United Kingdom at a rate of one flight per week for each of the licensed airlines, while adhering to the application of health requirements.
In light of this, Kuwaiti airlines began preparing for summer flights to London, especially as it is one of the important vacation destinations for many Kuwaiti citizens.
The “Kuwait – London – Kuwait” route is considered one of the oldest and most famous airlines operated by Kuwait Airways since 1964, as it was flying to the British capital at the time, at a rate of three flights per week.
The Deputy Director-General for Planning and Projects Affairs at the General Administration of Civil Aviation, Saad Al-Otaibi, told KUNA yesterday that the licensed companies to operate a direct flight to Heathrow Airport in London are 3 companies: Kuwait Airways, Jazeera Airways and British Airways, adding that “Kuwait Airways” will resume Today, its flights to London are at a rate of one flight per week, while “Jazeera Airways” will operate its first flights tomorrow, while “British Airways” has not yet determined the date of its flights to Kuwait Airport.
Al-Otaibi stressed the need to register departures and arrivals from and to Kuwait International Airport on the “Kuwait Passenger” platform, in addition to the “Shlonak” application 24 hours before the departure time, so that the passenger does not face any technical challenges at the “admission counter” on the flight outside Kuwait, adding that The total number of passengers through Kuwait Airport reached 92,306 passengers last May, an increase of 193 percent, compared to May 2020, while the number of flights reached 2,069, an increase of 96 percent compared to May last year.
