Kttaa Urges Government To Shorten Transition Period To Make Airport Fully Operational
The Federation of Kuwaiti Travel and Tourism Agencies Association (KTTAA) thanked the Kuwait government authorities, who recently decided to open the Kuwait International Airport for commercial trips (for arrivals and departures). The association expressed their joy at the announcement, but also were surprised that to attain the second stage of operations at Kuwait International Airport of 60 per cent it would take up to 6 months, which would be 1 February 2021. And further to reach the full operating capacity 100 per cent would take for a whole year, i.e. on 1 August 2021.
KTTAA noted that while they understood that the opening needed gradual transition for the first stage, the transition into the second stage and third stage was a very long and slow period.
KTTAA further noted that none of the Gulf or even European airports are adopting an operational plan of this length and slow pace. The association noted that this would have serious economic repercussions as well as high price of travel due to shortage of flights.
The Kuwaiti Travel and Tourism Agencies Association calls on the esteemed government and the General Administration of Civil Aviation to shorten the operational time period for Kuwait International Airport for the three phase to (3) months for each stage instead of the current 6 months for each stage. This would in turn help the travel industry as well as passengers who will not have to bear the burden of high price of travel.
