Government Hit On Monitoring
In light of speculations on the Cabinet reshuffle, Rapporteur of the parliamentary Budget and Final Accounts Committee MP Riyadh Al-Adsani urged the government to prioritize the amendment of its general policies and stop violations. In a press statement, Al-Adsani disclosed the Ministry of Defense signed the purchase order and memorandum of understanding with the Italian government for the new Eurofighter jets more than five months prior to the issuance of the State Audit Bureau’s report or its approval. He said this is an indicator that the government is not willing to cooperate with monitoring bodies. He also pointed out that the State Ministry for Services collected only KD 4 million of the KD 7 million overdue payments from registered companies and individuals.
The financial monitoring bodies recorded a total of 30,000 violations in all ministries, including employment-related violations such as external employment and unlawful promotions; but only 5,000 of these violations were corrected or in the process of being corrected. Al-Adsani talked about numerous violations in the government, emphasizing the need for ministers to start addressing these violations as the current statistics are not in favor of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and his government.
In another development, MP Mohammed Hayef called on the premier and Interior Minister Lieutenant General Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah to fix the deteriorating situation at the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR). Speaking to the press in the National Assembly Media Center, Hayef hinted that he will use his constitutional tools as a representative of the people if the situation remains the same.
He urged the minister of interior to hold accountable those who failed to take any step to address the problems of Bedouns. He also called on his fellow MPs to stop being compliant over what he described as a heartbreaking issue and quickly solve the problems of Bedouns.
He claimed the CSRSIR has failed to stop the injustice being suffered by Bedouns, indicating the agency must address the issues to serve its purpose. He commended the interior minister’s cooperation with the Human Rights Commission in combating corruption in his ministry, referring several embezzlement cases to the Public Prosecution, and conducting internal investigations
