General Traffic Department Officers Issued 3,989 Citations, Impounded 373 Vehicles And Detained 11 People
In a surprise campaign by the General Traffic Department on Thursday, which continued until last Friday morning, traffic officers issued 3,989 citations, impounded 373 vehicles plus motorbikes, detained 11 people and referred an expatriate to deportation center and three minors to the Juvenile Prosecution for various traffic offenses.
The operation conducted in collaboration with 76 policemen and 141 warrant officers from traffic sector supported by 208 officers from the traffic patrol unit registered three alcohol-related cases. They also arrested a person involved in a civil case who was found in possession of intoxicant.
Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs in the Interior Ministry Major General Al-Muhanna said relevant traffic sectors in all six governorates coordinate through to organize campaigns to eradicate negative phenomena and bad behavior. He noted campaign will continue in all areas at different times in order to achieve traffic safety and punish violators.
Major General Al-Muhanna noted 135 deaths have been recorded in traffic accidents since the start of the year, urging motorists to abide by traffic regulations to protect life and property and reduce the rate of traffic accidents.
For his part, Assistant Director General for Traffic Organization and License Affairs Major General Fahad Al-Shuwaie said the traffic sector have several measures in place to control traffic around the clock in all parts of the country and also punish violators of traffic law.
