For Terrorism And Other Charges, Saudi Arabia Executes 81 Men In One Day, The Largest Mass Execution In Decades

12 March 2022 Saudi Arabia

On Saturday, "Deviant beliefs" and terrorism led to the execution of 81 people in Saudi Arabia, including 7 Yemenis and one Syrian. This was the biggest such execution in years, authorities said.

In contrast, there were 67 executions reportedly carried out in the kingdom in 2021, while there were 27 in 2020.

A statement from the interior ministry said that the men and women had all been convicted of murdering innocent men, women, and children.

These criminals are also known to have pledged allegiance to foreign terrorist organizations, such as ISIS (Islamic State or Daesh), Al Qaida, and the Houthis.

It said some of them joined "terrorist organizations" in conflict zones.

According to the ministry statement, no details were provided about how the executions took place.

A single case involved 37 Saudi nationals who were convicted for targeting police stations and convoys and attempting to kill security officers.

As a firm and unwavering opposition to terrorism and extremist ideologies, the kingdom continues to use its influence to ensure the safety, security, and prosperity of the entire world, according to the report.

In 1980, when militants seized Mecca's Grand Mosque, state media reported that the kingdom executed 63 people in a single day.

According to a Saudi state-run television announcement, those executed had acted in a manner consistent with Satanic teachings.

In Saudi Arabia, law stipulates that the accused will have the right to an attorney as well as the right to full legal rights throughout the judicial process.
