Fish Mongers Are Still Waiting For The Local Fish
The Souk Sharq Fish Market opened its doors for the public after a long absence but the fish mongers are unhappy because all that is available is imported fish while the fish mongers are still waiting for the local fish to meet the increasing demand of consumers.
The Director General of Kuwait Municipality, Eng. Ahmed Al-Manfuhi visit fish market in Sharq to check and ensure compliance with the precautionary requirements and procedures
The daily added, even the imported fish that is available is in small quantities. The daily monitored the state of the market, which opened its doors at eight in the morning who had the earlier booked permission online to enter the market (barcode). In addition to the permit, the market goers are required to abide by all formalities, such as wearing gloves, face masks and adhering to social distancing.
The vendors of the stalls expressed their dissatisfaction because Kuwaiti zubaidi and the local popular fish maid was nowhere to be seen while the import of zubaidi from Iran and the Gulf countries is allowed while at the same time depriving the Kuwaiti fisherman of fishing in its waters under the pretext of preserving the stock.
However, the president of the Kuwaiti Federation of Fishermen, Zahir Al- Suwayyan, told Al-Rai that local fish went out for sale in the Sharq market, but there is little demand for it because of what he called ‘unpopularity’ Al-Suwayyan pointed out that among the available fish Al Bayah 2.5 dinars per kilo and Al-Nada 3.5, and Al-Sabour 2 dinars, Saudi farm shrimp 3 dinars, Saudi crabs 2.5 dinars, and Egyptian tilapia 1.5 dinars, and Turkish large sipas 4.5 dinars and medium 3 dinars.
