Failure To Define Health Insurance Fee Delays Renewal Of Work Permits For Non-graduate 60-year-olds

30 January 2022 Kuwait

The publication of the long-awaited decision issued by the Public Authority for Manpower to allow non-graduate expatriates who are 60 years and above to renew their work permits has been published in the Kuwait Al-Yawm, the official gazette, today, Sunday, Jan 30, 2022, but a majority of the expatriates are still unable to renew their work permits because the insurance companies listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange have yet to come to terms on the value of the health insurance fee.

PAM has already set two conditions for the renewal of residence for this category of people — a 250 dinars fee in addition to an irrevocable insurance policy from one of the insurance companies listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange. However, a majority of the sixty-year-olds are still unable to renew their work permits because the insurance companies have not yet determined the insurance fee, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The ‘Ashal’ automated system has been activated by PAM to receive transactions from the non-graduate 60 years old expatriates, but only those who have been excluded from paying the fees — husbands of Kuwaiti women and their sons and foreign wives of Kuwaitis and those holding Palestinian documents – could benefit from the service.

Informed sources added until yesterday (Saturday) the insurance companies did not announce the value of the insurance fees for the 60 categories. However, the procedures for renewal are soon expected to become clear when PAM’s automated system starts receiving the transactions.

Meanwhile, the Public Authority for Manpower continues to receive graduates through the system after their documents have been authenticated by the concerned authorities.
