Expats Shortage In Kuwait

11 April 2022 Expats

There is a severe shortage of expat workers in Kuwait, especially in the professional and craft sectors. The newspaper Al Jarida reported that demand is increasing at an unprecedented rate.

Since the beginning of the epidemic until now, tens of thousands of expat workers have left Kuwait permanently or voluntarily, as well as those whose residency expired while they were abroad and therefore unable to return.

For expats 60 years and older without university degrees who were recently allowed to renew their residency but had to pay a fee of about 750 dinars (250 to renew a work permit and 500 to renew an insurance policy), the repercussions have been significant.

It is estimated that more than 7,000 workers aged 60 and older have left Kuwait for good, leading to a direct impact on the market, as evidenced by citizens' constant complaints that their 'dishdashas' are delayed until after Eid Al Fitr due to hundreds of tailors who left the country.
