Expatriate Teachers' Iqama In Kuwait To Be Extended For Two Years
Kuwait's education department plans to extend the current one-year residency permit to two years for expatriate teachers.
According to the Education Ministry's assistant undersecretary for administrative affairs who spoke to Al Rai newspaper, The Ministry of interior is ready to approve the extension, but the Ministry of Health must coordinate teacher health insurance, Rajaa Bouarki said.
In order to avoid disrupting teachers' summer vacation, we hope to have this completed by next school year.
The official said that, in a decentralisation step, education dept. would be given authority to renew teachers' iqamas, and that the ministry's administrative sector would be responsible only for renewal of residency permits for those working at the ministry's general directorate and in private education.
Increasing users' access numbers to the education system and conducting transactions has been approved by the Ministry of interior, he said.
It is now easier for teachers to access the ministry's website, make appointments and enter their data.
It was not immediately known how many expatriate teachers will be affected by the Iqama extension.
The Kuwait population is about 4.6 million people, nearly 3.4 million of whom are foreigners.
