Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs Maryam Al-Aqeel said an EgyptAir flight has left Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday with 298 passengers, including 96 Egyptian deportees, on board.

Administrative procedures were taken against the 96 deportees while the other passengers have expired visas or wanted to leave for home willingly, she told Kuwait Newes Agency at the airport after supervising the deportation process.

"Some deportees breached the recent cabinet decrees regarding the preventive measures to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Others violated the residency and labor laws.

"They were arrested in a crackdown jointly carried out by a four-party taskforce, representing the Ministry of Interior, the Public Authority of Manpower (PAM), Kuwait Municipality and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry," the minister revealed.

The government of Kuwait foot the bill of the travel tickets of the deportees, she said, affirming the commitment of all state agencies to taking the necessary measures against law violators, particularly when it comes to the precautions against COVID-19.

The minister reminded all expatriates in Kuwait of the need to commit themselves to the provisions of law and the safety guidelines or face legal measures.

Al-Aqeel applauded the cooperation of the state agencies that arranged for the deportation process, notably the ministries of interior and foreign affairs, the PAM and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
