During Ramadan, The Awqaf Will Collect Money From Mosques, But Only Via Knet

02 April 2022 Kuwait

The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has given its approval to the Ministry of Social Affairs' proposal to collect donations at mosques during Ramadan.

According to an administrative circular issued by the Ministry's Undersecretary, Farid Emadi, a copy of which was obtained by a local Arabic daily, it is only permissible to collect donations through bank deductions (KNet) during the holy month.

Representatives of charity societies and associations are permitted to collect donations inside mosques, but they are not permitted to give speeches or provide introductory information about the organization or its initiatives in order to avoid disturbing worshipers.

Each association is also permitted to place portable and independent advertisements licensed by the Ministry of Social Affairs at the mosque's entrance and along the back wall in order to avoid distracting worshipers from performing their prayers in humility, in accordance with the fatwa issued by the Ministry's Fatwa Committee, provided that the association that issued the advertisement removes the advertisements at the end of the period specified in the circular.

Except for those permitted by the Ministry of Social Affairs in line with the license provided by the Ministry in this respect, the circular forbids placing advertising soliciting for donations on the walls of mosques from the outside or inside.

This infringement will be reported to the Ministry of Social Affairs, and money collection boxes in mosques are strictly prohibited. Mosque imams do not have the authority to collect donations for charity projects or to establish charity programs for the benefit of any party.

If any of the aforementioned applicable rules and regulations are broken, send a WhatsApp message or call the hotline number 98988461.
