After being convicted of drug abuse, an Egyptian expat reportedly escaped from Kuwait International Airport security authorities.

Upon running away from police, the violator was found hiding in Jleeb Al Shuyoukh, an area in Farwaniya Governorate, according to Kuwait Ministry of Interior. His deportation to Egypt was immediate.

In response to questions about how he managed to escape, the suspect explained that he took advantage of the police getting busy at the airport to take refuge with a relative by taxi.

Two policemen have been arrested and referred to an investigation over negligence charges following the incident.

According to informed sources, 65 percent of crimes in Kuwait involve drugs, whether they are used, sold or promoted.

Kuwaiti citizens made up the majority of the 650 people who died of drug overdoses over the past nine years (2012-2020).
