Don’t Collect Donations – Societies Warned
The Ministry of Social Affairs has warned about fund-raising campaigns carried out by Islamic companies and societies under humanitarian or religious cover, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting official sources from the ministry. Sources told the daily that the ministry recently received complaints about companies claiming to be based in Hawally and Farwaniya which call citizens and residents to request for donations for the purpose of buying Holy Quran or mosque furnishing.
Sources confirmed the ministry is currently coordinating with the relevant authorities to monitor companies that are not affiliated with charitable societies or local foundations to identify those behind the collection of donations; especially since the callers are using an Internet number or an external call to a local number to make the tracking process difficult.
Sources said the inspection teams at the Charitable Societies Administration have intensified their efforts in response to the complaints about donations, in addition to ensuring strict compliance with the electronic fundraising mechanism among charities. Sources added legal measures will be taken against charities, companies or individuals announcing that they are collecting donations; such as referring them to the Public Prosecution.
