Distance Education Achieves A 60% Academic Rate After Three Years
Kuwait's Ministry of Education is revolutionizing its educational landscape through the implementation of a digital transformation plan, spearheaded by Al-Rai newspaper. Thousands of teachers and department heads are undergoing extensive training on the "Teams" system, equipping them for virtual teaching sessions spanning four hours. Technical insiders at Al-Rai have assessed the "distance" e-learning system after three years of operation, revealing an academic achievement rate of approximately 60%, compared to traditional in-person education.
While acknowledging that distance education serves as a supplementary tool rather than a primary one, sources stress its crucial role in mitigating disruptions, such as those witnessed during the Covid-19 pandemic and adverse climatic conditions. However, challenges arise, particularly during Ramadan, as the Ministry grapples with synchronizing virtual classes across educational stages amidst time constraints and technical glitches.
As the study plan for middle and secondary levels nears completion, the Ministry plans to commence tests ahead of the end-of-year exams, ensuring adherence to schedules. In-person education will not revisit topics covered during virtual classes due to time limitations.
Regarding student engagement, attendance rates vary across schools, with interaction levels lower compared to traditional classrooms. Success in this system hinges on students' motivation, awareness, and concentration.
Amidst weather-induced disruptions, the Ministry swiftly transitions to online learning using the "Teams" program, ensuring continuity in education while prioritizing student safety.
