The Court of Appeals upheld the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance Court which acquitted a man who was accused of kidnapping his wife from her parents’ house.

The defense counsel Lawyer Sheikha Fawzia Al-Sabah disclosed that her client’s wife was involved in a terrible traffic accident in which a number of her family members died and she had sustained serious injuries including paralysis and was in a coma for months. After receiving a quarter of a million dinars as compensation, problems erupted between her client and his wife’s father to the extent that the father used all possible tricks to separate the couple. The father then obtained a court ruling which gave him the custody of his daughter and the right to manage her money.

He then filed a divorce case against her client on behalf of his daughter. When the wife went missing in her father’s home, the father accused her client of breaking into his house and kidnapping his daughter with the help of a friend. During the court sessions, the man found himself surrounded by incriminating and condemning evidences from witnesses and the arresting officer. However, during the session at the Personal Status Court, the wife affirmed in writing, since she was unable to speak, that her father does not want her but only her money. She wrote that she is happy with her husband, who had stood by her side during times of difficulties, showed concern for her medical treatment and cares and loves their children.
