Contract To Install Fingerprint Attendance Systems In Schools
After signing the contract with the supplying company, the Ministry of Education is moving toward introducing fingerprint attendance in schools. However, the ministry's public education sector, which is against its implementation, prefers to keep the current state of affairs.
“Most regions have not yet been informed when the devices will be installed, but it should be within weeks,” an official source confirmed to Al-Rai. However, even if that happens, it is expected since the ministry didn't cancel the tender in the first place, and continued the contract awarding process.
There are several procedures that must be followed before this decision can be implemented, including adopting the organizational structure of schools, defining tasks and responsibilities for certain jobs, and determining the subordination of some of them, which will not be possible during the current academic year.
As a result of their differing nature from other government jobs subject to the regulations and provisions of the Civil Service Commission, teachers are not subject to fingerprinting by the Ministry of Education. According to sources, teaching is one of the hardest professions, unlike other jobs.
Hamad Al-Adwani, the former Minister of Education, rejected the idea of equalizing teaching jobs with other professions in his letter to the Civil Service Commission. In addition, he mentioned some obstacles relating to school structures and fingerprinting difficulties."
