Burial Of 179 Individuals, Including Infants, In 'mass Grave' Takes Place At Hospital Complex Amidst Gaza Crisis

14 November 2023 International

In a tragic turn of events at Gaza's largest hospital, Al Shifa hospital director Mohammad Abu Salmiyah disclosed on Tuesday that 179 individuals, including infants and intensive care unit (ICU) patients, had been interred in a "mass grave" within the hospital complex.

Salmiyah explained, "We were compelled to resort to a mass grave," citing the depletion of hospital fuel supplies. Among those laid to rest, seven were babies, and 29 were ICU patients who succumbed to their conditions after the hospital ran out of fuel.

He further lamented the dire conditions, stating, "Bodies are scattered in the hospital complex, and the morgues no longer have electricity, as no fuel has entered the Gaza Strip since the commencement of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7."

On the same day, the ICU witnessed the passing of a man and a woman, bringing the total number of ICU-related deaths to 29, according to Salmiyah.

This distressing situation sheds light on the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza, underscoring the urgent need for international attention and assistance.
