A government inventory shows the state-owned vacant land which is available in various regions (in urban areas) of the country is suitable for constructing 159.6 thousand housing units.

The report prepared in this regard, says Al-Qabas daily according to a copy it has obtained, indicates at the moment more than 155,000 housing units are concentrated in the west, south and north of Sabah Al-Ahmad.

The Ministerial Public Services Committee also discussed the report prepared by the committee formed by the Minister of State for Housing Affairs Shaya Al-Shaya, which identifies land suitable for building residential homes and the obstacles preventing the construction for some or other reason.

The report especially highlighted the site for the Applied Institute of Higher Education, a garden owned by the state, the Hunting and Equestrian Club, and a site for a University in South Sulaibiya.

As for the obstacles facing the plots of South Ali Sabah Al-Salem, they are due to the overheard power lines.

It is noteworthy to mention Minister Al-Shaya has issued a decision to form a team to survey the state-owned vacant lands suitable for housing projects, to undertake the following:

Identifying vacant plots of land owned suitable for residential care purposes.
Determining the area and the approximate number of housing units for each.
Determining the main obstacles and determining the jurisdiction to which it belongs.
To make appropriate recommendations regarding the best use of each of these lands.
