05 January 2021 Coronavirus

The positive trend for Corona numbers continued at all levels from mid-November to the end of December 2020, whether in terms of the number of confirmed virus infections or deaths, in addition to daily critical cases in intensive care units, and the average number of positive laboratory swabs.

In December, 7949 confirmed cases of the virus were recorded in Kuwait, a decrease of 8760 cases compared to November, a decrease of 52%, and an average of 256 daily infections, lower than the average daily infections in November, which was 557. The total number of deaths decreased in December to 54 cases compared to November deaths That was 101 cases, a decrease of 47%.

The average number of daily cases in intensive care units in November was 61, compared to 100 in October, a decrease of 39%, and the number of cases in intensive care in the last day of 2020 reached 47 cases only.

The month of December witnessed the total number of recovered cases exceeding the total number of people infected with the virus, as the total number of people recovered reached 9904, an increase of 25% over the total number of infected people.

Positive smears

In December, the average number of positive laboratory swabs decreased to 5.8% from 9% in November, and the average number of daily laboratory swabs in December was 5137 compared to 5968 in November, a decrease of nearly 14%.

The decrease in the average number of daily laboratory swabs must be seen from a positive side, given that the decrease in the number of HIV infections during the past month must be followed in necessity by the decrease in the number of contacts with the infected, which reflects a greater commitment by citizens and residents to the rules of social distancing to prevent infection with the virus.

During December, the average number of cases receiving treatment due to HIV infection decreased to 3354 compared to 7496 in November, a decrease of 55%, and this level is equivalent to the rates recorded last April.

Average mortality

This continuous low trend in the number of HIV infections in December was also reflected in the average daily death toll from the virus, which was 1.7, less than two deaths per day, compared to 3.4 in November.

Six days in December recorded zero deaths, and August 13 was the last day in which zero deaths were recorded due to the Corona epidemic before December. By the end of 2020, the death rate due to the new Corona epidemic in Kuwait to the total number of infections is 0.006, or in other words, there are 6 deaths for every 1,000 people infected with Covid-19 virus in Kuwait for the year 2020.

By the end of 2020, the percentage of confirmed infections for the population since the first infection with the Coronavirus was recorded at the end of last February is 3.2%, as the total number of confirmed infections reached 150,584 cases. The total of those recovering from HIV infection by the end of December was 146,517, and the difference between the number of infected people and the number of people recovering became 4,067 cases, which is the lowest difference for several months, and this difference includes the total number of people who died from the virus and the total number of cases receiving treatment at the end of December of the last year.
