316,700 Expatriates ‘forfeit’ Residence Permits For Various Reasons

A total of 316,700 expatriates of various nationalities failed to renew their residence permits for various reasons either because they were outside Kuwait or unable to return due to the travel restrictions following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic or because they left the country voluntarily after the completion of work or those who decided to settle in their respective countries and those who were deported from the country until yesterday, Nov 15.

The Al-Anba daily said these expatriates were in the following category — Article 18 (private sector), Article 17 (government sector), Article 22 (dependent visa) and Article 20 (domestic workers) and Article 24 (same sponsor), in addition to those who were deported from the country from January 1, 2021 until Nov 15, was 316,700 thousand of different nationalities.

The sources pointed out a bulk of them made from one Arab and one Asian country which and two other Asian countries which supply domestic workers. This is in addition to 44,124 citizens of other nationalities who failed to renew their residence permits.

The source confirmed the residence affairs sector was lenient and allowed the renewal of residence permits online after expiry and also did not cancel the work permits of whose who could not return after the permissible limit of 6 outside the country.

The source said a significant number of residence permits expired because they failed to renew the validity of their passports. The source stressed all those whose residence permits have expired and want to return to Kuwait have to begin all procedures all over again.
