100,000 Indians Are Stuck Abroad

The Indian ambassador to the country, Sibi George, revealed that more than 5,000 Indian citizens enter Kuwait weekly after the move to open direct flights between the two countries, expressing hope that the number will rise in the near future after the airport’s capacity is increased.

George said at a conference on the occasion of the opening of his country’s pavilion at the Dubai Expo, that there is no agreement between the two sides on the number of planes, but what is agreed upon is the number of people entering Kuwait weekly from India.

He pointed out that there are 100,000 members of his community residing in Kuwait now stranded in India, most of them have valid Kuwaiti residencies, and there are a number of them whose residencies have expired and they are in the process of renewing them, and the Kuwaiti government and the embassy are providing them with assistance in this regard.

Domestic Workers

Regarding reducing the value of bringing in Indian domestic workers, he said: Our community is the largest in Kuwait among the foreign communities, and we are working with the Kuwaiti authorities and with the Manpower Authority to increase their number in Kuwait. The visit of the Indian Foreign Minister to Kuwait regarding the recruitment of Indian workers to Kuwait, especially in the field of nursing and medical staff, noting that they are continuing talks with the Kuwaiti side regarding reducing the price of Indian domestic workers to bring in the largest number of them. George stressed that his country is the largest market for information technology in the world, noting that the number of Indian companies in Kuwait is 100 in addition to contractors and subcontractors, expressing his hope that joint cooperation and documentation between the two countries will be strengthened, especially after controlling the Corona pandemic to serve the interests of The two friendly countries.

On a related note, George revealed the launch of the permanent Indian pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai starting from October 1, India’s ascending march to become a $5 trillion economy in the post-Covid-19 world.

He stated that the Expo will give a boost to Indian business in a big way, and the exhibition will include the most important industries, companies, startups and various Indian states, pointing out that the Expo will highlight India’s war against COVID-19 and the country’s emergence as a global business center that offers tremendous opportunities to the world to be the main topic of India’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai. .

Regarding the establishment of an Indian economic pavilion in Kuwait similar to the Indian pavilion in Dubai Expo 2020, George said that the embassy hosts exhibitions daily, and India is participating in Expo 2020 Dubai with a large pavilion, which is also an opportunity for Kuwaiti friends to visit our pavilion at the Dubai Expo, which will open next October, and I will be Happy to work with Kuwaiti friends and set up an exhibition here in Kuwait.
