Kuwait To Continue Working With All Parties On Gulf Crisis
Kuwait’s Emir has affirmed he was working with all sides to reach a settlement of the Gulf crisis.
Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad said in a cable he sent to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the success of the general assembly that he was continuing to work for achieving security and stability in the region alongside his contribution to alleviating the suffering of people caught in the developments in Syria, Iraq and Yemen amid support from the international community, Kuwaiti daily Al Jareeda reported on Wednesday.
Kuwait has been the lead mediator in the crisis after Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt on June 5 severed their diplomatic and trade relations with Qatar over support for extremists and funding of terrorism.
Several major countries have said they were supporting the Kuwaiti mediation to reach a solution and the countries involved often said they valued and praised the efforts exerted by Shaikh Sabah.
Yet, more than 110 days into the crisis, the standoff is still continuing and there is no public indication of a breakthrough.
;However, Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid Al Jarallah insisted that the Kuwaiti mediation efforts had not failed.
“The Kuwaiti mediation had not failed and there are attempts and efforts by the United States and its president. We appreciate such a position and we are involved in it,” Al Jarallah said.
Al Jarallah said Kuwait would not abandon its mediation efforts. “We look forward to a quick solution to this crisis and Kuwait is ready to exert further efforts to contain this unfortunate dispute between brothers,” he said.
“We always look forward to a unified Gulf stance and to turning the page of the dispute in the near future. We will not lose hope and we are optimistic about reinforcing this position.”
