500 Complaints Against Officers
While the Ministry of Interior stresses on the need to protect the prestige of law and order agencies, the Al-Qabas sources revealed that the Control and Inspection Department of the Ministry has recorded about 500 complaints against officers and lower rank personnel during 2018, and that all of them are under investigation, reports the daily.
The sources pointed out these complaints were filed by some parties and citizens and varied between abuse of authority, malicious behavior as well as the use of social media in matters contrary to the police law, as well as the use of excessive violence.
According to the sources, the department has recorded more than 23,609 violations against its officers, and other personnel during field tours conducted by the inspectors upon directives of the ministry’s leaders. The recorded violations varied between dereliction of duty, delay in reporting for work and absenteeism, indiscipline, non-compliance with appearance, nonperformance of duties, guarding, and others.
The sources said these are individual cases. However, the higher authority has given strict instructions not to tolerate any abuse of power ‘because no one is above the law’.
