Visas Issued As Per Local Market Needs
The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has affirmed that work permits are subject to regulations and decisions in line with prevailing policies in the local labor market, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The authority issued this statement a day after pointing out the inaccuracy of news about the suspension of work permit issuance for women from Tunisia, Morocco and Lebanon unless they have legal companions or security clearance. In response, the embassies of the three countries communicated with their respective countries to verify the news; asserting they have not received any official communication on this issue. Meanwhile, PAM Director General Ahmad Al-Musa explained the “recruitment of women in the country is governed by policies endorsed in the Fourth Chapter of the Labor Law and in accordance with regulations and procedures followed in issuing work permits as per ministerial decision number 552/2018.”
“The decision specifies fields in which women are barred from working as the jobs are dangerous and pose health risks, or not in accordance with public decorum. This is aimed at providing protection and care for working women guaranteed by the law,” Al-Musa indicated.
He added, “The authority exercises its mandate through circulars and ministerial decisions within the limits of Labor Law number 6/2010 and within the framework of maintaining public order. Kuwait is keen on maintaining the best relations with all countries.” He stressed that organizational decisions concerning the labor market do not target a specific nationality, as these decisions are aimed at protecting the welfare of the country. He said the local labor market accommodates thousands of expatriates of various nationalities.
“They enjoy appreciation and gratitude for their role and contribution to the development of this country,” he confirmed. On the other hand, in response to the daily regarding the accuracy of news on the request from Rabat (Capital of Morocco) to suspend work permits for Moroccan women below 40 years unless it is through family visa with the husband or father, Moroccan Ambassador to Kuwait Jafar Hakeem disclosed he is currently coordinating with the concerned authority in his country.
Also, Ambassador of Tunisia to Kuwait Ahmad bin Sagher clarified that such types of news are usually communicated through official sources; while Charge d’Affaires at the Lebanese Embassy Nassrin Abu Karam said her embassy has not received any information regarding this issue.
