There Are 221,820 School-age Children Who Are Not Enrolled In School
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) reported that 221,820 Kuwaiti school-aged children were not enrolled in schools in 2023. An educational source confirmed that 60,790 children were in primary school, 81,180 middle school boys, and 79,850 students were in secondary school. According to Al-Rai, the numbers mentioned in the statistics include Kuwaiti and expatriate children.
According to the source, the number of students deprived of education did not exceed 12,000 in 2008, emphasizing the need to enact laws that force expatriates to educate their children.
The ministry states, "There are thousands of children of some communities studying under the (home education) system, and then examining the courses applied in their countries.". Furthermore, some foreign residents send their children to study in their countries of origin while their residency remains valid.”
"The poor electronic linkage in the Ministry of Education, between public and private schools, has resulted in several Kuwaiti students appearing in the UNESCO statistics, including a large number of diplomats' children, foreign school students, and families in disarray" he explained.
Kuwaiti students are also included in the statistics, including some with disabilities, so the government must support the private sector in attracting them regardless of their disabilities. He also stressed the importance of addressing the administrative errors which included Kuwaiti students in the statistic, despite the fact that they were enrolled in private schools.
According to the source, Kuwait's educational system has a reputation for deprived students, whose percentage is equal to 10 percent, which is a very high percentage.
