The Kuwaiti Ambassador To The United States Is Honored At Memorial Day Parade
Sheikh Salem Al-Sabah, Kuwait's ambassador to the United States, was honoured on Monday for his "unwavering and generous support" of the annual National Memorial Day procession since its debut in 2005, support that has been "critical to the event's survival and expansion."
During remarks at the ceremony, James Roberts, the founder and president of the American Veterans Center, which hosts the annual National Memorial Day March, noted that Kuwait has been one of the initial sponsors since the parade began in 2005, "and they've been with us ever since."
Sheikh Salem, he continued, attends the march every year "to show the thanks of the people of Kuwait to the people of the United States for the freedom of their nation." "In the early years, the survival of this parade was very, very uncertain from year to year," he said, "and I honestly don't know if we would be here today if it hadn't been for the steadfast support for the people of Kuwait." Sheikh Salem was honoured with a plaque at the procession for his unwavering support.
"Ambassador Al-Sabah has embodied the fraternal bonds of friendship that unite our two countries, and his unwavering support for the American Veterans Center and the United States military forces will never be forgotten," Roberts said.
"I'm here today to tell you that Kuwait will never forget what America did for us 32 years ago," Sheikh Salem said during his remarks at the procession, which was attended by thousands of people from throughout the country and shown on television. "We're educating our younger generations about what America stands for and what America did for us," he added, "and our gratitude for what you accomplished and your sacrifices to us will always be inscribed in our hearts and thoughts."
"I stand before you now as an ambassador of a free, independent, and sovereign country, because of what you did for us, because of your sacrifice," Sheikh Salem concluded. "We've come to express our gratitude." We will always remember and be a part of this march, and we will continue to be proud supporters and participants as time goes on."
Kuwait was sent afloat along Constitution Avenue during the parade, which is the country's greatest Memorial Day celebration, to express "deep thanks for those who served and those who lost" in the war to liberate the country.
