Supervisory Role Tightened On Egyptian Fruits

After the decision of Saudi Arabia to ban the Egyptian onions, Secretary-General of the Higher Committee for Food Safety at the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition Eng Adel Al-Suwait said the committee has recommended the extension of tightening the supervisory procedures on the shipments of vegetables and fruits coming from Egypt for three months which began on Jan 25, 2019, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Suwait pointed out that the supervisory actions include the seizure of all shipments, send samples to the labs to examine the food to ensure the validity of consumption. The shipments of fruits and vegetables must be accompanied with test certificate of the agricultural insecticides. Al-Suwait made it clear that the committee has relayed its recommendations on the results of lab tests that affirmed the high rate of agricultural insecticides in the Egyptian agricultural products vegetables and fruits
