Schools Without Ac – Replace All Old Units
MP Saadoun Hammad has urged Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Hamid Al-Azmi to intervene and instruct the concerned bodies to carry out maintenance works in the air conditioning systems in schools and replace the dilapidated units as soon as possible, reports Al-Jaridah daily.
In a press statement, Hammad pointed out that with the start of the new academic year; many public schools in all educational districts are not fully prepared to receive students due to many faulty air conditioning units. He said the old air conditioning units are not functioning well amid the rising temperature, humidity and student population.
He expressed appreciation and gratitude to the principals who took upon themselves to call the parents and guardians to pick up their children and then gave the students a break until the end of this week as the current situation in their schools is not conducive for learning.
“Faulty air conditioning system and lack of suitable atmosphere in schools negatively affect our children’s capacity to learn and achieve academically, in addition to the negative effect on the learning process as it will lead to several health problems for our children,” the MP noted.
He asked the minister to postpone classes in schools which are not ready to receive students until all the necessary maintenance works are completed. He said most schools are still under maintenance, particularly the air conditioning system, which was supposed to be done during the summer holiday – before the opening of the academic year.
On the other hand, MP Khaleel Al-Saleh has announced his intention to submit a bill on protecting students from high temperature and erratic weather conditions by setting up huge umbrellas in school yards. Also, MP Abdul-Wahhab Al-Babtain intends to submit a proposal to establish an integrated smart phone application, through which schools will communicate directly with parents especially about issues requiring their approval.
