Regular Classes Will Resume At Private Schools On August 21st

01 August 2022 Education

From August 21, private foreign schools will resume their regular education system with a shortened working hours policy for their educational bodies, beginning with the 2022/2023 academic year. Initially, their students will start school on Sunday, August 28, then on Tuesday, August 30, and then another batch on September 4.

Tuition fees for the next academic year are set and will not increase despite the wave of high prices caused by the pandemic.

There is still a shortage of manpower and cadres in some Arab and foreign schools, according to Noura Al-Ghanim, president of the Private Schools Union.

To facilitate the process of recruiting foreign workers, she urged government institutions to exclude workers in the educational and health sectors from bringing their families in.

The cost of labor in Kuwait is very high, according to Al-Ghanim. Schools cannot hire it.

Besides teachers and directors, educational institutions require security guards, cleaners, bus drivers, and maintenance workers to ensure cleanliness and safety.

It is common for foreign teachers to refuse to return to Kuwait without their families. At present, government decisions do not allow teachers' families to enter except under certain circumstances."

In the COVID-19 crisis, Al-Ghanim praised the Ministry of Interior and the Public Manpower Authority for their excellent response.

Hopefully, this flexibility will continue in the recruitment of foreign workers to work at private schools.

According to Al-Ghanim, foreign teachers and their wives (if they work in Kuwait) should be able to bring in their older children. The teacher and his wife cannot leave their 15-year-old and 16-year-old children behind and come to Kuwait.

As the pandemic recedes and its repercussions pass, we must look forward and not back as we move forward with our normal lives. To upgrade the educational system, the vision must be comprehensive. To ensure its continuity, all the ingredients must be provided.

Government and private institutions must cooperate in this regard, she said.

In the meantime, reliable sources stressed the need for foreign schools to comply with ministerial resolution No. 52/2021 regarding tuition fees.

In case of violation of the decision, penalties will be applied, pointing out that the tuition fees for the year 2021 are outlined in the tables attached to the aforementioned decision.

Each student at the school shall have a special account list specifying the tuition fees owed by the guardians, the payment system, their value and due dates, provided that private schools are entitled to registration fees for the 2022/2023 academic year, which are deducted from the tuition fees owed by each student. In Arab schools and foreign schools with Pakistani, Indian, or Filipino curricula, this amount is KD 50 per student, and KD 100 per student in other foreign schools.

A private school may not change the due date, the number of payments, or the value of those payments. Upon transferring to another school during the school year or leaving, the school to which the student is transferred will not be responsible for the tuition fees for the scheduled payment within the specified dates.

Any tuition fees a student has paid to the school from which he is transferring are tuition fees.

In accordance with the sources, private schools are not permitted to collect any fees or expenses other than tuition fees. Neither textbooks nor school uniforms may be required for students as well as electronic services or transportation services".
