Private Oil Sector Workers Call For Rights

17 February 2022 Kuwait

As reported by Al-Anba daily, Salem Al-Ajmi, head of the volunteering team for workers in the private oil sector, announced the team represents the workers in the absence of their union and board to represent their rights and demands. As a result of Al-Ajmi's press statement, the government was urged to intervene immediately and defuse the crisis before it reaches a new level of escalation, to assure workers in the private oil sector all their rights.

According to him, the number of undocumented workers in the private sector exceeds 14,000 people. "It is unfortunate that this law is not applied on the ground," Al-Ajmi claimed, insisting that they must be subject to the labor laws applicable to the oil sector under law No. 28/1969, which grants all rights to oil workers in the private sector.

Kuwaiti employees in the private oil sector will not be deprived of their rights in vain, despite final court rulings, according to the leader of the volunteer team. Assem Al-Ajmi called on the National Assembly to take action "before things escalate" in the private oil sector. "We will never give up our just rights," he concluded by indicating that a new phase of escalation would begin soon, which would result in a sit-in, which we do not desire."
