Prices Of Sheep Up As Eid Approaches

04 July 2021 Kuwait

With the approach of Eid Al-Adha, the price of animal sacrifices (sheep) has increased, especially for the local mature breed, which has reached KD 150, while an Iranian Shefali sheep costs reached KD 100, reports Al-Rai daily. A number of sheep breeders indicated that the increase in prices was expected considering the decrease in the number of sheep in Kuwait, and the lack of interest of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) to support livestock in the country.

One of the sheep dealers Abu Daoud said the prices of sacrifices are likely to increase this year compared to the previous years due to the lack of supply, and the great demand of the Kuwaiti society for live meat. He urged PAAAFR to change its oversight policy on owners of livestock pens that they funded in return to breeding live sheep. Daoud affirmed that the non-compliance of the owners of the pens with the rate allocated to them for breeding sheep is due to the weakness of PAAAFR’s supervision, which in turn made the country almost devoid of livestock and led to increase in the prices.
