14 November 2020 Information

Minister of Electricity and Water Dr Khaled Al-Fadhel has addressed the staff of the ministry to fully prepare for the rainy season, particularly the emergency teams, which should be fully prepared to deal with any emergency situation during this season, reports Aljarida daily.

In a press statement, Director of the Department of Emergency Services Eng Adel Mahmoud said various departments have started preparing for this season, especially the emergency services, which have started conducting comprehensive maintenance of all 135 diesel generators with which they will work.

He stressed that the administration, through these generators, can cover all the areas of Kuwait from north to south in all governorates and locations that need generators. Eng Mahmoud affirmed that the administration will increase the number of mechanisms in Fahaheel and Saad Al-Abdullah areas, and a number of generators will be sent to Sabah Al-Ahmad area, to be ready to work when needed in order to cover the winter season.

Emergency
He said the emergency services team and the ministry’s teams work around the clock throughout the year on shift basis, not only during the rainy season, adding that they perform their job 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Eng Mahmoud stressed that these teams, their mechanisms and generators are in full readiness, to quickly cover the sites and ensure there are no sudden malfunctions.

He revealed that there is a tender currently with the Tender Committee in the process of being offered at a value of KD 5 million, which contains approximately 44 diesel generators. Eng Mahmoud indicated that there is a tendency for these generators to be small in size, due to increase in the demand for them. He explained that the small-sized ones are less than 1000 kilowatts, and they are the generators with sizes 250, 300 and 500.

These generators feed three or four homes, while the substations need generators of 1150, 1250 and 1800 sizes. Eng Mahmoud stressed that the emergency departments in the ministry are working with all their capacity and are doing their work excellently. He said, “There are directives from the honorable Minister Al-Fadhel, the undersecretary and the assistant undersecretary to restore power supply immediately in the event of any malfunction using the diesel generators until the malfunction is repaired and restored”.

Eng Mahmoud affirmed that the period starting from the end of September is considered as a recession period in the administration, as there are no large demands on diesel generators. He said, “However, the number of requests for these generators last summer was higher than in 2019, as we were able to cover, with the cooperation of emergency teams, all the faults that occurred without any delay for the residents of the regions, whether in investment or private housing.”
