Orthodox Community In Kuwait Paid Tribute To Their Supreme Head His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose Ii
The Orthodox Parishes in Kuwait paid tribute to His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, the late lamented Supreme Head of the Malankara Orthodox Church, the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan.
"The Malankara Church has lost not only a saint but also a visionary leader for India who valued humanity," His Excellency Indian Ambassador Shri Sibi George said in his condolence message. Ambassador quoted the Condolence messages of the President and Prime Minister of India in his speech.
Vatican Ambassador to Kuwait and Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent also attended the condolence meet, which was conducted in accordance with Covid-19 protocol at National Evangelical Church (NECK) Kuwait on Monday, 19th July, and was jointly organized by the Orthodox Parishes of Kuwait, St. Gregorios Maha Edavaka, St. Thomas Pazhaya Palli Ahmadi, St. Basil Orthodox Church and St. Stephens Orthodox Church.
The head of the Malankara Orthodox Church, His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, has passed away on July 12th and was laid to rest with full state honours.
Fr.Giju George, Vicar of St.Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka and Administrative Vicar of St.Thomas Orthodox Pazhaya Palli Ahamdi, presided the Condolence meeting.
Dignitaries such as HG Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius Metropolitan of Orthodox parishes in Kuwait, Veena George, Minister of Health of Kerala, Oommen Chandy, Former Chief Minister of Kerala, Very Rev. Bedros Manuelian, the Patriarchal Vicar of the Armenian Orthodox Church, Rev. Bernabas, Vicar of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Rev. Michael Mbona Chaplain of the Anglican Church in Kuwait, Roy Yohannan, Secretary NECK, Rev. Fr. Gigi Mathew, representing CSI parishes in Kuwait, Rev Fr. Thomas Prasad, representing Marthoma parishes in Kuwait, etc offered their condolence during the meeting, which was attended virtually by large number of people. Meeting was also attended by Prominent members of the Armenian Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, as well as several prominent social, cultural and media personalities.
Fr. John Jacob, Vicar of St. Stephen's Orthodox Parish, Fr. Matthew M. Matthew, the vicar of St. Basil's Orthodox Parish, Matthew K. Elanjikal, Church Managing Committee Member, John P. Joseph, Vinod E Varghese, Alex Mathew and Binu Thomas, Fr. Liju K Ponnachan, Assistant Vicar of St.Gregorios Maha Edavaka, Babu Varghese, Shibu P. Alex, Sunday School Headmaster of Maha Edavakam, Church Managing Committee Member and Abraham C. Alex, Diocesan Council Member etc coordinated the meeting.
