Oil Derivatives Smugglers Will Be Dealt With By Customs

13 August 2022 Kuwait

In an instruction issued to all departments, Suleiman Al-Fahad, the Acting Director of the General Administration of Customs, outlined mechanisms for dealing with seizures related to petroleum derivative smuggling.

A local Arabic newspaper reports that the following procedures are followed in cases of smuggling petroleum derivatives, including diesel, in order to facilitate customs procedures:

– Preparation of a detailed seizure report to be attached to the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation's letter and any other documents related to this investigation.

– A fine of 50% of the value of the goods will be imposed upon the concerned parties upon notification of the violation through the competent department.

 – When the Director of the Customs Department or his representative imposes fines, he or she must accept requests for conciliation from the concerned parties and notify Legal Affairs within 72 hours of issuance of the report about the issue.

– If the stakeholders refuse to reach a conciliatory settlement or complain about the fine, the matter with all attachments is referred to the Legal Affairs Department.

The Legal Affairs Department is notified if the stakeholders or their representatives fail to pay the fine after 15 days.
