No Plastic Rice Found After Testing
Ministry of Commerce and Industry with other relevant authorities in the country have collected and tested random samples of rice in the Kuwaiti markets and no plastic rice was detected, contrary to content of a video clip circulated on social media recently.
Noted random samples were taken from various markets and supermarkets in different parts of the country for testing at the Ministry of Health laboratories, and results of further tests are expected soon.
Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalid Al-Roudan watched the video while following up the issue during a private holiday overseas and contacted the person who posted the video. He assured ministry officials took immediate action concerning the video’s content, and their efforts to obtain facts regarding some complaints submitted by citizens in that regard are commendable.
The source allayed fears of consumers, saying quantities of rice in the local market are safe and that Kuwait is among countries within the GCC region that are strict on specifications for imported foodstuffs. They reiterated concerned officers swung into action immediately after the video was post on social media, and they have yet to find any plastic rice in the market.
