New Traffic Cameras Register 33,000 Violations

New traffic cameras register 32,941 violations after its launch in the country on July 16, 2016. According to Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Fahad Al Shuwai, 915 individuals were deported and 54,166 vehicles and 950 motorcycles were seized in 2016. From January 1, 2017 to July 29, 2017, 117 individuals were deported, and 12,028 vehicles and 633 motorcycles were seized.

The new traffic cameras are based on advanced technology whereby vehicles that commit traffic violations can be recorded from any angle. Major General Fahad Al Shuwai clarified that the aim of these cameras are not only for recording traffic violations but also for tracking careless drivers and violators of traffic rules and regulations.
