30 March 2018 Kuwait

MP Saleh Ashour has forwarded questions to Minister of Oil, Electricity and Water Bakheet Shibeeb Al-Rasheedi about the expatriate workers in the oil sector.

Ashour said he found out that Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and its subsidiaries are still sending expatriate workers on official missions and external training courses despite the presence of qualified citizens.

He requested for a list of expatriate workers in KPC and its subsidiaries who were part of official missions and external training courses from Jan 1, 2015 till date. He also demanded for a copy of the decision or circular issued by KPC’s administration to stop sending expatriate workers on official missions or external training courses, if any.

Meanwhile, MP Riyadh Al-Adsani urged Defense Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad to submit the final account of the KD 3 billion allocated for the procurement of equipment and weapons, which will be withdrawn from the general financial reserve.

He revealed the previous Parliament allotted KD 6.2 billion for the purchase of weapons and equipment and KD 3 billion of which should be taken from the general financial reserve while the remaining amount will be taken from the existing budget.

On the other hand, MP Safa Al-Hashem asserted all citizens have the right to obtain housing loan regardless of their gender or status. She said a Kuwaiti woman married to a non-Kuwaiti who lives in Kuwait and does not have children must wait for five years after marriage to obtain housing loan to ensure authenticity of the marriage.

She added Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis and those who never got married should not be deprived of their housing right, especially since the Constitution stipulates granting such right to all citizens without discrimination.

She asked the government to amend its policy on the distribution of lowrent apartments which should not be in isolated buildings. She proposed construction of houses in new residential areas for the abovementioned women, instead of granting them apartments in residential buildings
