Mp And Other Lawmakers Presented A Bill On Granting Amnesty Who Committed Certain Crimes

29 January 2017 Kuwait

MP Adel Al-Damkhi and a number of other lawmakers have presented a bill on granting amnesty to those who committed certain crimes in accordance with Article 75 of the Constitution.

Without mentioning the types of crimes covered by the bill, the lawmakers said those who committed certain crimes from 2011 to April 8, 2016 will be pardoned without revealing their identities to the public. Al-Damkhi expressed optimism after raising the issue in the recently concluded meeting with HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, indicating this bill will be beneficial to about 500 people once it is approved.

He added the bill aims to ease the burden and suffering of the families of the concerned individuals – some of whom are currently in prison while others are under interrogation. He explained that special pardon is usually granted to those who received the final verdict, while general amnesty covers those with first and final verdicts as well as those detained pending investigation.
