Moi Leaders Suspended Over Prisoner Suicide

In the context of establishing discipline in the Central Prison and preventing any transgressions or irregularities. Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and Acting Minister of Defense, issued a ministerial decision suspending both the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Private Security and Correctional Institutions Affairs, Major General Abdullah Saffah, and the Director General of Correctional Institutions, Brigadier General Fahad Al-Obaid. They have both been referred for investigations, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Abdullah Al-Rajeeb has been appointed Assistant Undersecretary for Correctional Institutions, as well as Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs and Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs and Operations.

A decision was made by Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled to appoint Brigadier General Nasser Al-Azmi as Director General of Correctional Institutions and Brigadier General Hazaa Al-Juaib as his deputy.

Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, according to informed sources, has decided to form a committee to investigate the events on Tuesday, May 30 at the Central Prison. The prisoners’ cells were inspected, inmates’ statements were listened to, and their conditions were also checked, based on the instructions of Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid.

As a result of the announcement made by the Ministry of Interior regarding the suicide death of an inmate at the Central Prison, this step has been taken. A case was filed and referred to the concerned authorities.

According to the minister, the committee consists of representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health, the Kuwait Society for Human Rights, and the Kuwait Transparency Society.

Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled instructed the leaders to prioritize discipline and punish officials who fail to perform their duties ”.

In his remarks, the minister stressed the importance of taking the necessary safeguards to protect correctional institution inmates, and the necessity of applying the principle "imprisonment is reform and refinement."

According to sources, the "twitch" that the minister has begun is aimed at strengthening security discipline, preventing any defects in the Central Prison, establishing transparency, and applying the law to abusers.
