Moe Will Begin Replacing 25 Percent Of Expat Workers With Kuwaitis
Ministry of Education will begin replacing 25 percent of expatriate workers with Kuwaitis, based on the Kuwaitization policy, starting from 2017/2018 academic year. This will be done by terminating the recruitment of expatriate teachers of specialties for which many Kuwaiti and GCC teachers can be appointed.
According to a source, the officials have collated names of over 450 teachers and 150 heads of departments and technical supervisors in preparation for the termination of their services. He explained that the affected expatriate teachers are those teaching sociology, integrated science, Islamic studies and computer science subjects in all stages of education.
However, many Kuwaiti and GCC graduates can handle those subjects. The source said the officials will forward the list to the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Education Fatmah Al-Kandari after which the Undersecretary of Ministry of Education Dr Haitham Al-Atari will approve it for further procedures. He indicated that the affected teachers will be notified in March since their contracts will end on July 7.
The source stressed that the list of affected teachers were collated last year, but the ministry rescinded the decision due to its need for their services, adding that these teachers are those whose contracts predate 2013, most of whom have worked in the ministry for over 34 years
