Martyr Bureau Marks 25th Anniversary Of Honoring, Serving Kuwait Martyrs
Marking its 25th foundation anniversary on Sunday, the Martyr Bureau at the Amiri Diwan has been maintaining the great value and sacrifice offered by Kuwaitis throughout history, especially during the Iraqi invasion in 1990. The invasion saw the emergence of people who stunned the world with their strength, determination and courage in defending their country and dignity despite being caught off guard and found themselves before an army replete with the latest machines of death and destruction.
It is an honorable page in Kuwaiti people's history book, as they struck wonderful examples that revealed great values instilled in their hearts. This has stressed Kuwaitis' readiness of defending their country, its territorial integrity and unity throughout history.
Seeking to maintain the great value of martyrdom, His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued the Amiri Decree No. 38 on June 19, 1991 to establish The Martyr Bureau. Then His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah completed this patronage and sought to achieve the lofty goals crystallized in honoring martyrs, their heroism and sacrifice in defending their homeland.
The support of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah extended also to the martyrs' families and relatives in all aspects of life. The support is also provided to every one - either Kuwaitis or non-Kuwaitis - who sacrificed his or her life for the sake of the country in embodiment of the deep-rooted relation between the Kuwaiti people and the political leadership throughout history.
Assistant Undersecretary of the Amiri Diwan Affairs and Director General of the Bureau Fatima Al-Ameer told KUNA that the Bureau is dealing with about 1,288 files of martyrs from 14 nationalities. "Media is a key tool in delivering the Bureau's message completely. There is a program that contains a brief on every martyr and the place where he/she was martyred," she said.
The Bureau is seeking to prepare some activities that would contribute in shedding light on the great heroic roles of martyrs, "out of our role to immortalize the martyrs," she noted. The Bureau is keen to post its activities and events on social media sites, she said, adding that the Bureau has set up a mural containing the names of all martyrs.
She also noted that the Bureau is seeking to name some of Kuwait's streets after the martyrs, indicating that there are endeavors to put a memorial at the Shuhada Street to remind Kuwaiti people of the heroic epic. Arrangements are underway for the August 2nd to mark the Iraqi invasion's anniversary, she said, noting that the Ministry of Information will share the Bureau's preparations for this occasion, describing it as the "day of challenge and steadfastness".
