Man In Jail Runs Show As Huge Quantity Of Drugs Seized In Cid ‘sting’ Operation
Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recently foiled an attempt to smuggle 34 kilos of hashish and a quantity of narcotic pills into the country via the sea, reports Al- Anba daily. The daily added, two people have been charged with smuggling drugs (one of them believed to be a bedoun) and another operating from inside the Central Prison who is already serving a prison term for a similar offence.
The daily quoting security sources said, the arrest came after the CID men were tipped off about a consignment of drugs that was to be smuggled into the country via the sea from Iran to be dropped in the sea off Kubbar Island and picked up later from the bottom of the sea.
The daily added, an ambush was laid for the man in Mangaf and he was arrested. During interrogation he admitted to smuggling drugs and gave the CID men the identity of his partner. After taking permission from the Public Prosecution his home was searched and one kilo of hashish and about 100 grams of alum and a sensitive scale were seized. During interrogation he admitted that he was in constant contact with the first accused and that he was receiving information and instructions from him directly from inside his prison. The source revealed that the prime suspect – the inmate – was arrested early last month, along with others by personnel from the General Department for Drugs Control (GDDC) for possessing half a kilo of hashish.
