Majority Of Students Are Absent And Only 15% Attend School In Kuwait

27 February 2024 Education

The Ministry of Education’s schools faced significant disruption as the majority of students were absent, following an agreement among parent groups to grant their children leave. Parents cited concerns about irregular attendance and expected school administrations to reach out for student pick-ups.

Tomorrow’s schedule is also expected to be affected, with attendance rates today barely reaching 15%. Despite the low turnout, classes commenced without adhering to the planned curriculum, sparking concerns over the fairness of withholding education due to limited student presence.

While the Ministry has implemented measures to address absenteeism, such as linking it to grades and applying penalties, officials emphasize the importance of parental awareness in ensuring regular attendance. Some expressed bewilderment at parent groups, particularly those among women, who decide on absences before and after holidays without considering the impact on their children’s education.
