Last Year's Flood Victims In Kerala Received 25 Lakhs From The Indian Community In Kuwait

About 25 lakhs rupees were donated to Kerala flood victims in 2021 by the Indian community in Kuwait. An audited financial report was handed over to the Indian ambassador in the Embassy auditorium by the committee formed under the leadership of Dr Ameer Ahmad.

It is believed that Kuwait's Indian community donated 8909 KD (i.e. 25 lakh IRs) to 434 Kerala flood victims, who were affected by flooding the year before.

Kerala has experienced the wettest year in the last six decades in 2021. Last October, flash floods, landslides and rains in Kerala left over 40 dead and thousands displaced.

During that time, Shri Sibi George, the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, convened a meeting and set up a Kerala support committee. Chief of the committee will be Dr Amir Ahmad, president of the Indian Doctors Forum. Three sub-committees will be formed to facilitate funding for the needy people.

It was reported that the community, under the guidance of Mr SA Labba, contributed 8909 KD. Its members identified the most affected Kerala flood victims in the four panchayats of Kottayam & Idukki, along with Kuttanadu & Alapuzha districts. In selecting the families, the committee considered no factors of caste, politics or any other kind.

BEC exchange company was also thanked by the fund distribution committee headed by Mr. Sajeev for providing financial assistance to around 434 families, as well as waving off their service charges.

A report with the audited financial statements and the audited report was handed over to Ambassador Shri Sibi George during the concluding meeting.
