Kuwait's Weather Expert Warns Of Record High Temperatures

01 June 2024 Weather in Kuwait

Starting today, the northwesterly winds in Kuwait will become active, moderating the atmosphere. The dust stirred up in wild areas will begin later, and moderate winds will persist through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, causing dust to rise in the wild areas.

Meteorological expert Issa Ramadan stated that the current temperatures in the country are four to five degrees Celsius higher than usual.

Ramadan explained to Al-Qabas newspaper that this extreme heat wave is due to the Indian seasonal depression’s influence on the region, coupled with hot winds blowing dry through northern Kuwait’s valleys and desert areas from Iraq. These factors have significantly increased temperatures, with Ramadan attributing the abnormal heat waves to global climate changes and the impact of the El Niño phenomenon.

He likened the current situation to weather conditions experienced in the autumn of 1997 and the summer of 1998, noting that El Niño tends to increase heat waves during summers following unusually heavy winter and spring rains.

Also, heatwaves are arriving earlier than in the past summer months due to the Indian seasonal depression.

He added, “Starting today, the northwesterly winds will become active, moderating the atmosphere. The dust stirred up in wild areas will begin later, and moderate winds will persist through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, causing dust to rise in wild areas. This will lead to a relative drop in temperatures, returning to their normal rates on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

He also anticipated that relative humidity would return next Thursday evening as the winds shift back to the southeast. This pattern is expected to persist through Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, characterized by high heat and hot, humid conditions. Following the dust and strong winds, relative humidity is expected to persist until the end of next week.
