Kuwaitis With University Degrees Make Up 43% Of The Labor Force

Al-Rai daily reports that eighty-four percent of the country's residents, including those in the public and private sectors, have educational credentials below university, and half have intermediate certificates. The Central Administration of Statistics reported that 36,964 individuals have qualifications above and below high school, 322,766 have high school or equivalent qualifications, 717,239 have average qualifications, 129,924 have primary qualifications, 7,767 can only read and write, and 269 are illiterate.

The recently released statistic on employment by sector, education level, nationality, and gender shows that (excluding the family sector such as servants and the like), only 5% of expatriates read and write, 9 percent hold primary degrees, 22.3 percent hold secondary degrees, 2.5 percent hold high school degrees, and the largest percentage hold intermediate degrees at 49.5%.

Meanwhile, there are 214,858 residents with a university degree, or 14.8%, and 14,244 graduate students, or 1%. The figures indicate that there are 434,825 citizens in the public and private sectors, the majority of whom are students. A high school diploma or its equivalent (about 21 percent), 91,923 have a high school diploma or its equivalent (about 21 percent), 48,428 have an intermediate degree (about 11 percent), 187,721 have a university degree (about 43%), and 57,036 have qualifications over high school and below university. As well as 10,001 individuals with primary qualifications, 46 with only reading and writing skills, and two illiterates, there are also 19,663 individuals with no educational level.
